Đây là một số câu ví dụ mẫu, bạn xem nha.

  1. Thereare more to life than that.

  3. “He is at  the same age as me”

  4. “He extremely cared for her as well.“

  5. He is the cleverest boy I have ever met.

  6. The number in A is ten times higher than in B.

  7. Figure A is 30% lower than figure B.

  8. There is less than half the amount of rainfall in A as there is in B.
  9. The capital city is Edinburgh but the biggest city, size-wise and population-wise, is Glasgow.
  10. The West Coast of Scotland gets more rain than the East Coast.
  11. The people of Glasgow are] quite different from Edinburgh where they’re much more reserved.
  12. They’re not so friendly as Glaswegians.

Ðây là các ví d trong các essay:

“What are the advantagesof living in your hometown?”

The advantages? Well, for me it was where  I was born and I love it. I don’t know if that’s anadvantage. It’s not as rich as some other places but the people are reallyfriendly. That’s certainly an advantage. You know if need to ask someone in thestreet a question, you can always do that. That’s a really big difference from places like London where people are much less friendly.

“Describe your hometown.”

“Well it isn’t a bigplace. In fact it’s pretty small if you compare it to one of the major cities. I guess it’s got apopulation of about 50,000 and it’s more of a town than a city. But there’splenty of things to do there and you can find almost anything you want.

Is it easy to travelaround your hometown?”

I guess so. CertainlyI’ve never had any problems travelling around it. But compared to a capital city there aren’t nearly so manymeans of transport. You know in Bucharest for example there’s themetro/underground, trams, trolley buses, buses and taxis, but we don’t havetrolley buses here in Craiova.

“What is it known for?”

Oh. What is it known for? Let me see. It isn’t a particularlyfamous city. Not many people outside of Romania have heard of it. The footballteam Universitatea used to be pretty good and once got to the semi-finals ofthe UEFA cup. But that was a long time ago now. I suppose you could say Craiovais a bit like/similar to Swindonin the UK. It’s the sort of place travel through and don’t stop.

“What do people in your town do?”

There are all sorts of jobs and professions. Nowadays, more andmore students at university are studying to become lawyers. In the old days inthe past the most popular career was to be an engineer. Then the countrywas much more industrial and if you wanted tosucceed that was the best choice. Nowadays, in contrast, as I was saying, people want to become lawyers or businessmenbecause that’s where the money is.

“What problems face your hometown?”

Oh, there are lots of them. At the moment there’s a bit of anational crisis. I’d say that the greatest problem is that the young people are leaving. Theyeither go to the capital or try and live abroad. One reason they do this isthat there’s a lot of unemployment and poverty. It’s really different from countries in the West– some people here have absolutely no money at all.

‘What languages are spoken in your hometown?”

Romanian of course. It’s our national language after all. Thereare still some Hungarian speakers but far fewer than in the past. A lot of the “native Hungarians”have left the country. But if you go to parts of Transylvannia you will findtowns where Hungarian is much more common than Romanian. And quite a few of the young peoplespeak good English and Spanish and Italian are also quite common. Though youwon’t hear people speak them much in the street.

Chủ ngữ người thì dùng COMPARING còn chủ ngữ vật thì dùng COMPARED.

Nếu nhấn mạnh sự GIỐNG NHAU giữa 2 vật so sánh thì dùng compare TO.

Nếu nhấn mạnh sự KHÁC NHAU thì dùng compare WITH.

EX:

  1.  We compared the facilities available to most city-dwellers with those available to people living in the country; to compare like with like.

  2. Our output simply cannot compare with theirs.

  3. I hesitate to compare my own works to those of someone like Dickens.

  4. She compared her work for women’s rights to Susan B Anthony’s campaign for women’s suffrage.

  5.  His time was 2:11:10 compared with 2:14 for his closest competitor.

  6. life has been compared to a pilgrimage, to a drama, to a battle.
  7. Congress may be compared with the British Parliament.
  8. Paris has been compared to ancient Athens; it may be compared with modern London.
